Service learning is a structured learning experience that combines community service with preparation and reflection in ways that can enhance both student growth and the common good. Students engaged in service learning provide community service in response to community-identified concerns, and learn about the context in which service is provided, the connection between their service and their academic coursework, and their roles as responsible citizens.

On Guåhan, Public Law 28-41 recognizes the importance of service learning and has mandated it as a requirement for all GDOE high school students to earn 75 hours to graduate. In support of Public Law 28-41, Sågan Tinanom offers students the opportunity to receive service learning hours for volunteering in the Nature Park, as they work on various co-curricular projects and learning about their relation to sustainability.
